Birdwatching in Athens: Happy New Birding Year!

Another exciting year for birding has begun! The first day of 2016 brought a lot of snow to many areas around Athens but also many interesting sightings!

Schinias National Park is famous for its Spotted Eagle, a bird that comes every winter in the area, since 2005!

Another great sighting was a Glossy Ibis that had to be in Africa at that time of year! The bird looked for food in a small pool, along with Little Egrets, Snipes, Kingfishers etc.

But that was not the only rarity (for the period) seen. A Black-winged Stilt was found in Oropos Lagoon, Athens' most important brackish wetland!

We wish you a merry 2016, full of joy and birds!
