Spyros Skareas | Founder | Bird Guide and Certified Tour Leader

I have been leading private birding and wildlife watching tours based in Athens since 2003. With extensive experience in leading ecologically oriented excursions throughout Greece, particularly in Athens, Central Greece, and Lesvos Island, I am also a Certified Tour Leader and avid bird photographer.

Our objective is to ensure that you enjoy the finest and most memorable birdwatching experiences in Greece

I hold a M.Sc. degree in Natural Resource Sciences from McGill University and a B.Sc. degree in Agronomy from the Agricultural University of Athens. My premium bird guide services have been honoured in travel book guides like National Geographic Guide ("Athens and the Islands" 2011), Lonely Planet Guide ("Greece", 2023).
In 2024 I was grateful to receive the highly prestigious Platinum Tourism Award, at the 2024 Tourism Award competition

When I am not guiding, I often dedicate myself to monitoring bird populations around Athens year-round, assessing the challenges faced by natural habitats in small wetlands. and photographing birds, reptiles, orchids. I am volunteer Caretaker for Artemis Lagoon and Rafina's Stream in Eastern Attica, contributing to the annual Midwinter counting of waterfowl.

I have authored numerous articles on entomological, ornithological, and environmental subjects, published in both international and national journals and newspapers. I am also a co-author of "Birds of Attica" (in greek).

Some notable highlights from my birding endeavors include recording a Little Swift (the third recorded sighting for Greece) from our home balcony in Rafina, discovering a Baillon's Crake at my local patch in Rafina's Stream, and documenting an Isabelline Shrike (the sixth recorded sighting for Greece) at Messolongi Lagoons.

Proficient in Greek (my native language), English and French, I speak some Spanish too.
